Traffic blues

Now, I am not the best driver on the road...far from it. I get distracted and I wave my hands about when I speak for emphasis. A habit that always makes my husband nervous. He says that if you tied my hands together I wouldn't have anything to say. He says it always looks like we having an argument even if we're just discussing the weather.
''It is embarrassing,'' he says, ''please poot da hands down. I'll hold one if you like...''
He is sweet, my long suffering snookums.
Having both hands on the steering probably wouldn't help though. I was taught to drive in Cape Town, but I have been driving in Johannesburg for two years,so I pretty much drive like a Joburger. I thought I had pretty much seen all kinds of driving.
Ha ha ha. Rwandans drive like Parisians drive around the etoile - all the time. If you ever visited Paris you'll know what I am talking about. There is an urban myth that insurance companies will insure you anywhere except for driving around the etoile at the Arc de triomphe. It is the one place in the world no one would insure your vehicle. They do, but for a knock-for-knock basis. Where they will only pay for the damages to their insured party. I don't blame them.
Twelve avenue converge on the etoile. It is like that here at every street corner. But amazingly there are no serious traffic accidents...bumper bashing sure...but only a few...
They hardly use their indicators, (Capetonians will feel at home) and lean on their hooter a lot (Gautengers will love it). Add to this the sharp inclines, bends and pedestrians....and your skills go up a notch in no time.
So the reason why I am telling you this is because I am starting to drive here on Sunday. Yikes...I am not sure who to feel sorrier for...me or them.

Honk honk..get out of my way y'all....

Bisous
Sam
